Riders for Health has launched a brand new film that gives an excellent overview of our work.

Shot in the Gambia, the film introduces Bubacarr Jallow, a community health nurse who is responsible for 13,000 people in 13 villages. As an outreach nurse, Bubacarr relies on his motorcycle to cover the large distances and difficult terrain to reach families in rural villages.

Having a reliable motorcycle means health workers like Bubacarr can reach four times as many people with reliable, lifesaving health care.

‘The bike enables me to reach out to my people at any time of the day or night to do the work,' says Bubacarr. 'Whenever the communities need me I am able to rush there and do the work perfectly. This helps in saving lives.’Riders for Health film

During the film Riders’ CEO and executive director, Andrea and Barry Coleman, explain why our work is so important and how it is helping communities across Africa.

‘People imagine that there is somehow a great network of vehicles operating perfectly, delivering health care to people just like in the developed work and that’s not true,’ says Barry. ‘You can’t afford not to get to a clinic when 150 women have arrived with their children.’

This is why Riders’ work is so critical.

‘What we do,’ says Andrea, ‘is to focus on running and managing vehicles that are able to get health care to the people who so desperately need it. The Riders mission is to ensure that any vehicle that is used to deliver heath care does that forever.’

The work that is being done by our technicians in Africa means that health care workers like Bubacarr can reach families in rural communities and deliver bed nets, vaccines and health care advice so people do not die from easily preventable, medieval diseases.
