Panther Since 1950

Panther Since 1950

This slim paperback in A4 size was originally part of author Steve Wilson’s extensive series of books entitled ‘British Motorcycles since 1950’ which is now well out of print. The text on Panthers has been extracted and re-printed by none other than Panther Publishing in order that those who have a penchant for the often vilified Cleckheaton range of bikes can learn more about them.

Obviously it is no where near as comprehensive as the definitive work on all the manufacturer’s products by Barry M Jones and published by the same company. It is none the less a good read, especially if you are thinking about buying one or just want to learn why they are not so visible on classic runs as maybe a Triumph twin!

Wilson’s easily readable style is well known in the classic market and takes you though the companies later years and their products. There is a useful section on the various models and specifications, along with engine and frame number sequences. This coupled with the period black and white photos should enable you to identify any bike you may wish to purchase.

Although reprinted in the original format, there is an update page at the rear for spares and owners clubs etc.  An excellent readable and well priced tome, it should sit on any classic bike enthusiast’s bookshelf!
