TT in Camera by Don Morley |
|
Arguably Don Morley is one of the greatest photographers that has ever pointed a lens at a motorcycle. His work has graced the pages of magazines across the world and some of his dramatic shots have never been equalled. In his professional career he has covered every major sport and won awards too numerous to mention, but his passion has always been motorcycling and in particular the TT races. No real surprise then that Haynes have brought out a hardback glossy coffee table publication showcasing some of his best work and believe me it is excellent. Don manages to get angles and shots that the rest of us only dream of getting thanks to his eye for detail and just knowing the best way to portray the action.
Over 240 pages convey the magic of the TT with just the captions spoiling the views. The history of the TT since the early fifties is detailed on the glossy pages and knowing how big Dons library is it must have been a hard job picking a selection for the book.
It is a superb volume and an inspiration to those of us who still hope to turn in work half as good.
However, my only small complaint is that there could have been more pages devoted to the fifties and sixties with some more black and white shots being used as these, like the early Kodak colours are so evocative of the time. But, that comment is due to the photographer and nostalgia person in me and most TT fans will just lap this book up.
Not the cheapest TT book on the market at £30.00 but well worth it to see history recorded by an absolute master of photography!
Available from all good bookshops or direct from Haynes (www.haynes.co.uk) themselves.
