Vincent and HRD Motorcycles by David Wright

Subtitled ‘How they were promoted and sold’ is written by David Wright and is a limited edition of 998. It is a wonderful large format hardbound publication that brings together period adverts, promotional material, literature and correspondence from the Vincent factory.
Although clearly aimed at the fan of the Stevenage brand, it is a wonderful example of how the same format could be applied to any brand of motorcycle with a pedigree dating back well over 50 years. Not only do the adverts and correspondence give some insight into the thinking of those in charge and therefore the industry as whole, but they are also an accurate record of the period.
The adverts show how big a dealer was (many of course, now being long gone), the publications that were around at the time and of course the language hints at gentler times. In many ways it is a social history book and certainly one of advertising around the world as well a walk through the history of Vincent.
This large format tome is really a must read for those whose interest lies in British motorcycle history as much as it a must have for the Vincent fan. Available from Amulree Publications www.amulree@mcb.net
