Spray paint made to resist the heat from a manifold. THIS is the best spray paint I have used and regardless of whether you use this spray for its intended high temperature resistance, the finished quality is amazing. The principle behind this Firecote spray paint is that it is able to resist very high temperatures up to around 400 degrees (hence the abbreviation VHT) without burning, flaking or peeling. Intended uses are suggested for engines, exhausts and manifolds along with a few household uses such as fireplaces, stoves and barbecues. I have set myself the challenge of rebuilding and refurbishing a powerful two-stroke Stihl stone cutting saw and so I initially used this paint on the small exhaust housing of the motor. However, I was so impressed with the coverage and quality of this paint, that I set to work spraying various other sections of the machine. Clearly the exhaust that needed painting was both metal and rusty and needed heat resistant paint, but now I was venturing on to spraying various plastics and alloys. The Firecote paint appears slightly thicker than normal spray paint consistency which I believe makes it easier to use as you don’t have to over-apply — the common cause of runs in paintwork. This paint sticks to anything — it adhered to the plastic casing as well as the exhaust and was touch dry within about 20 minutes. If you are using this paint in a professional environment, you can bake the paint in an infared oven to promote better hardening, but I was happy with leaving my parts to set in the sun. Once set, the paint is not only resistant to heat, but also grease, oil and petrol — making it ideal for the automotive industry. This is a product where a picture paints a clearer image than words, and so in the photograph you can see the plastic pull-start casing on the Stihl saw I am refurbishing both before and after coverage with the Firecote paint. I will be buying this paint by the box — it really is some of the best I have used.
