Bags Connection Slipstream tail bagFor the past couple of months I have been using the new tail bag from German luggage specialists Bags Connection called the Slipstream. One of two that they have introduced, the compact Slipstream is ideal for commuting or day trips when you need carrying capacity greater than jacket pockets, but do not want to go as far as a large rucksack, or similar.

It is manufactured from tough 1680 denier ballistic nylon to give durability and has a 13-litre capacity. It comes with a variety of fixings as well as two shoulder straps to turn it into a rucksack if required when taken off the bike. The makers claim it fits onto any bike with rear seat or flat rear luggage rack and that has proved accurate up to a point, but I was unable to secure it to the rear of the latest Yamaha R1 despite the fixing lops on the bike itself due to the bikes radical design.

However, apart from this it has worked well on a number of other machines and has proved very useful for carrying the I Pad and associated items along with glasses and other items that normally make uncomfortable bumps in clothing and risk getting wet. No risk with the Slipstream though as it has a waterproof inner as part of its armoury for peace of mind.

Its semi-rigid construction means it retains its aerodynamic shape and it has a handy bungee net on top which is ideal for transporting items like waterproof rain suits, or just putting you gloves under whilst filling up at a petrol station.

Whilst it is not the biggest bag on the market (if you need larger they do the Jet Pack which can be expanded from 20 -30 litres), its compact nature and top quality is what makes it particularly useful on an everyday basis. (It comes with a sheet of clear paintwork protective film to reduce wear and tear on exposed paintwork, so daily use is not a problem!)

Certainly it is easy to recommend as a useful addition to your luggage carrying equipment on a motorcycle based on my experience with it. The retail price is £94.37 (Including VAT at 20%) and it is available (as is the larger Jet Pack) from Motohaus on 01256 704909 or visit www.motohaus.com
